A malfunctioning commercial range is more than an inconvenience; it’s a gas safety risk. My EPA Section 608 Universal Certification ensures that every gas-side diagnostic meets the highest safety standards in Everett and Seattle.
Thermocouple and Manifold Pressure
When a burner fails to stay lit, the thermocouple is the first point of failure. This component generates a millivolt signal to hold the safety valve open. If the pilot flame is strong but the valve closes, we use a multimeter to check the millivolt output. Additionally, we verify the manifold gas pressure using a manometer to ensure the high-output burners are receiving the correct BTUs for consistent cooking.
Why won’t my commercial range pilot stay lit?
This is usually caused by a clogged pilot orifice or a degraded thermocouple. If the pilot flame is too small to wrap around the thermocouple, the safety valve will shut off the gas flow to prevent a leak.
